What is the President’s award all about?

The President’s Award for Youth Empowerment is part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. It is an exciting personal challenge for young people between the ages of 14 and 24. It started in the United Kingdom in 1956 and was first available in South Africa in 1983. There are over 14.300 active participants in the country from school, prisons, community youth groups and children’s homes. German educationalist Kurt Hahn, who conceptualized the Award programme, said: “When the mind is stretched by new experiences it can never return to its former dimensions. “The Award is about stretching YOU(TH).”
