Saturday 20 January 2018, pupils from Xolani SSS and St Matthews High School completed Sifunda Kunye facilitator training at our literacy centre in Keiskammahoek, based at St Matthews High School.
At Sifunda Kunye reading clubs we give exciting opportunity for your child to develop a love of reading and to get support to her/ his literacy learning. It will also contribute success in his/her whole educational career.
Sifunda Kunye Reading club goals:
- To expose children to many types of storytelling and story-reading in isiXhosa and English
- Help children to grow to love reading and writing
- Inspire children to want to read and write for themselves
- Get children reading and writing
What happens at the reading club?
- Big group storytelling
- Games and songs
- Small groups reading and writing
- Creative activities
Learner facilitators are chosen by their schools and volunteer.
Learner facilitators train on how to assist young minds at our reading clubs. Through the learner facilitator program, we are enabling learner facilitators to develop leadership, creativity, self-growth, team work, literacy skills.
We have weekly reading club meetings on Saturday mornings during the school term at our literacy centre that is based at St Matthews High school in Keiskammahoek.
In 2017 we started monthly reading clubs at Xolani SSS for the children of Zwelistha at Xolani SSS.
