This young lady is a true inspiration to so many at our school, she continues to inspire all her peers and teachers.

Participants from Sifunda Kunye partner schools, Toise SSS, St Matthews High School, and Hendrik Kanise Combined School took part in a 48 km hike during this weekend. Participants were qualifying for their silver in The Presidents Awards level.

During our arrival at camp it was raining but we were determined to complete our camp and required km to qualify for our silver. We hiked for 4km during the night walk, the following morning we hiked along the beach for 40 km and on the 3 day we hiked for 6 km. This was a challenging hike, it rained the entire 3 days and 2 nights, all together it rained 124 mm during our camp, we were wet, tired but determined. We had to work together in teams to survive the weekend. It took a lot of determination, teamwork, motivation and courage but we concurred and completed what we aimed to achieve.
Thank you to Sifunda Kunye for organizing this camp and for supporting us step by step through this journey.

On the weekend of the 28th of April 2016, Vuyolwethu Mekile was invited by the Enke Trabilizer programme to attend a celebration event in Cape Town on the successful completion of her 9 month Cap project.

The challenge was to start or make changes in their local communities, Vuyolwethu decided to start a library, poetry sessions, and donation of books in her Community. She started a mini library in her home. On Saturdays it became a well-known get together among all ages in her community where she resides.

Vuyolwethu is truly an example of a young lady with passion for literacy, poetry, and making changes in her life and the life’s of others.

Favourite message and quote by Vuyolwethu are “Dreams delayed are not dreams denied.” We wish Vuyolwethu good luck in her final year at Xolani Senior Secondary and wish her all the best for the future, and we are very proud of her as our school.

Thirty schools from across the country, over 60 pupils as well as three schools from the USA and one from Zimbabwe attended the BY4Y leadership workshop hosted by Kingswood in Grahamstown from the 3-8 December 2015. Some topics covered were restorative justice, conflict resolutions, crisis management, handling diversity and negotiation skills, and focus on value driven leadership as they affect local community level issues and as well as global level issues of climate change, access to services water and food security.
